Buying Beef From a Ranch FAQs

The questions "direct from ranch" meat-buying customers are asking (and if they aren't, they should be!). Simple and real. This is the way we firmly believe food was meant to be produced.

  1. Will there be additional expenses incurred on my beef share such as harvest fees or cut and wrap fees? Nope! Our USDA beef share fees are inclusive of all fees other than shipping. We pay the harvest and cut/wrap fees for you. The share price is your take-home price. However, if you prefer a ranch harvest, let's chat about it! That is an option.

  2. Is your beef harvested under USDA guidelines? YES! We want federal verification and stamp of approval (literally) for humane handling, pre/post-harvest inspection, sanitary condition inspection and record documentation for regulatory compliance. Although verification programs increase our operating costs, documentation from birth to harvest is important to us - and should be to you! Knowing where your food comes from helps you make responsible, healthy choices.

  3. How will I know if home delivery is an option? At checkout. After entering your shipping address, if delivery is an option for your zip code, it will automatically show as a choice along with other delivery options.

  4. Is this beef “actually” grassfed? Yes! We do NOT finish with grain even though some grassfed programs do. Our beef cattle spend their entire lives grazing eating grass and grass hay/forages.

  5. Why does the website say beef share pound amounts are approximate? Finished cattle will have slight variations in size.

  6. Do you offer front or back quarters as a share option? We do not. When you purchase a share, you purchase a percent of the total beef divided as equally as we can (50%, 25%, 12.5%, etc.). For example, each steer has two tri-tips. If you order a half beef, you will get one.

  7. Can I customize my cut sheet? Yes, if you buy a whole or half beef ;) for beef shares, we use our discretion to order cuts that are most “popular.”

  8. How long does frozen meat stay good in a freezer? According to the USDA, frozen beef will be safe indefinitely. However, for best quality, use uncooked, frozen beef within one year.

  9. Do you give MRNA vaccines to your cattle? Nope! And no one else does either (as of the date this blog was written). There are currently no mRNA vaccines approved or even created for cattle.
